Barrier-free holidays Hunsrück – Welcome to the Schwollbachhof!

Everyone is welcome at Schwollbachhof – no matter how mobile you are. We believe that everyone has the right to relax in the midst of nature. That’s why we have designed our hotel so that all guests, whether in a wheelchair, with a walking frame or with an assistance dog, can feel at home here. For us, accessibility is not just a technical necessity, but a central component of our hospitality.
Our aim is for you to be able to concentrate on the essentials: nature, relaxation and perhaps a slice or two of homemade cake. If you have any questions or special requirements: talk to us. We will take care of it.

Wheelchair-accessible rooms with access to nature: holidays in the countryside without barriers

All our rooms are easily accessible via a modern lift, making access easy for everyone. We would particularly like to emphasise our three wheelchair-accessible rooms, which are specially equipped for guests with wheelchairs or other mobility aids. These rooms not only offer plenty of space, but also wide doors, low beds and a bathroom where you can move around easily and relax safely.
Every detail, from the walk-in shower area to the furniture, has been selected to make you feel completely at ease. Our barrier-free rooms offer you all the comfort you need for a relaxing stay. Take the lift to the basement and then head out to the stream and the orchard, which combines peace and quiet with the enjoyment of nature. We want you to be able to enjoy your stay with us without any detours – with or without aids, with or without visible restrictions.
For guests who are dependent on regular dialysis treatments during their stay, the Kfh Kidney Centre at the Idar-Oberstein Clinic and the St. Wendel Kidney and Dialysis Centre offer the option of holiday dialysis.

Experience nature without barriers: Barrier-free excursions in the Hunsrück-Hochwald

The Schwollbachhof is located in the middle of the beautiful nature of the Hunsrück and Nahe valley. We know how important it is to breathe in the fresh air and enjoy the tranquillity of nature. And these experiences should not be inaccessible to anyone. Around the Schwollbachhof there are numerous offers in the region that you can take advantage of.

  • The Hunsrück-Hochwald National Park has special offers for people with disabilities and several hiking trails that are easily accessible. On the island tour (https://www.nlphh.de/barrierefrei/) you can enjoy the diversity of flora and fauna – and even a real moor – without any difficulty.
  • The national park gate ‘Wildenburg’ offers barrier-free paths through the game reserve past the spacious enclosures to experience many native game species up close.
  • The Fischbach copper mine, with its barrier-free access, offers an opportunity to experience Hunsrück history up close underground, without steps and with sufficient space for wheelchairs or walking aids. A great destination for excursions regardless of the weather!
  • The German Gemstone Museum Idar-Oberstein has been tested and recognised for its accessibility. It offers step-free access, lifts and a barrier-free WC.
  • Historische Weiherschleife Idar-Oberstein: The Historische Weiherschleife is barrier-free. An easily accessible path leads to the exhibitions and the film room, where seating and places for wheelchair users are available. A great destination to experience the history of gemstone processing in comfort

Why accessibility affects us all

Restrictions in mobility, hearing, vision or mental resilience are all part of human reality. Often invisible, sometimes temporary, sometimes permanent. In Germany alone, this affects over 7.8 million people – around 9.3% of the population. And only around 3 % of all disabilities affect a person from birth. The majority develop over the course of a lifetime, due to illness, accident or simply ageing.
The probability of being dependent on accessible services at some point is therefore quite high. We think so: It’s time for accommodation to be prepared for this, because greater accessibility is a benefit for everyone.

We are learning – accessibility as a path, inclusion as a goal

The path to true accessibility is an ongoing process for us – we learn with every step. Some solutions only emerge from conversations with you, our guests, who show us where things are still stuck or where we could make a big difference with a small detail.
We therefore expressly invite you to join us: If you have any suggestions, tips or constructive criticism – just let us know! Your views will help us to make Schwollbachhof more accessible, more comfortable and more human bit by bit. Together, we can turn good intentions into inclusion in practice.
