Traumschleife Kirschweiler Festung: Wald und Felsformationen

The Hunsrück

The Hunsrück lies between the Rhine, Moselle, Nahe, and Saar rivers and is a densely forested low mountain region in Rhineland-Palatinate. With its diverse hiking trails, deep forests, and clear streams, it is a paradise for nature lovers and those seeking relaxation. In the Hunsrück-Hochwald National Park, the only national park in Rhineland-Palatinate, you can experience pristine nature and rare wetlands across an area of 10,000 hectares. The region is also rich in history, for example, with the Celtic ring wall near Otzenhausen, which was once an important Celtic fortification.

The Hunsrück-Hochwald National Park

The Hunsrück-Hochwald National Park covers approximately 10,000 hectares in the highlands of the Hunsrück and encompasses areas in Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland. It is considered a “hotspot region for biodiversity” with beech forests rich in old growth forests, moors, rare animal species such as the wildcat and the black stork, and diverse plant species. The park follows the motto “Let nature be nature” and is divided into zones where nature is allowed to develop largely undisturbed, thus creating a primeval forest of tomorrow.
