For more than 150 years, Schwollbachhof has been part of our family history. This house, the surrounding meadows and forests, and our connection to the region shape the decisions we make in renovation and day-to-day operations.
Between 2023 and 2026, we renovated the entire building. On this page, we present specific measures relating to the building, energy, water, furnishings, food, nature and mobility. We explain what has already been implemented, what is still being developed, and what each piece of information refers to.
Not everything is complete, and not every measure can be assessed in general terms. We therefore provide transparent information about the individual steps that we can document.
Wood from our own woodland
For the renovation, we used selected timber from our own woodland areas. It can be found in the cladding of the older building, as balcony supports, at the headboards of beds, in benches in bathrooms and cloakrooms, and as table tops in the dining room and fireplace room.
Building, heating and electricity
The entire building was renovated between 2023 and 2026. Heating is provided by two air-to-water heat pumps. A photovoltaic system with 40 kWp has been in operation since April 2026; the electricity generated is used in the building, while electricity not used on site is fed into the public grid.
Rainwater for the outdoor areas
A rainwater cistern with a capacity of 56 m³ supplies four water points for watering flower beds, the garden and lawns.
Food and supplier relationships
For breakfast and selected offerings, we source, among other products, cheese from the Demeter-certified Bornwiesenhof farm, eggs from Frischeidienst Wittal in Morbach-Gonzerath, cured and sausage products from Metzgerei Georg, bread and rolls from Bäckerei Hofmann in Schwollen, and coffee from espresso-kessler in Nohfelden.
Rooms and service
For stays of several nights, we arrange room cleaning as well as towel and bed-linen changes on request. In the bathrooms, we use refillable dispensers for soap, shampoo and shower gel.
Nature around the house
The main building has swallow nests and swift nesting boxes. An access opening to the attic has been created in the gable for bats. The grounds also include a traditional orchard meadow, a meadow beside the stream that is mown once a year, and our own woodland area.
Arrival and mobility
Two charging points for electric vehicles are available to overnight guests. The “Schwollen Hoffmann” bus stop is approximately 160 metres away on foot. For bicycles, there is a bicycle garage, a drying room and maps of the national park.
Spending time together
Schwollbachhof offers space for shared time: overnight guests can use the communal kitchen, fireplace room and barbecue area. Here, you can cook, eat, talk or spend an evening at the grill together.
The communal kitchen and fireplace room are generally open to overnight guests. They may be reserved in advance for exclusive use. The barbecue facility can be booked at reception for a fee.
